New to cube notation?

R right · L left · U upper · D down · F front · B back.

A letter means a 90° clockwise turn when looking directly at that face. A prime (′) reverses it. A 2 means 180°. M is the middle slice, turning like L. Lowercase r turns the right two layers. x / z rotate the whole cube like R / F.

Moving the camera changes only your view. The Front, Top and Bottom buttons help you recover the reference orientation.

Follow along with your own cube

Start solved, yellow on top and green at the front, then apply this setup. The lesson shows one complete example, not a universal sequence for every scramble.

How the methods differ

CFOP: cross, four corner–edge pairs (F2L), orient the last layer (OLL), then permute it (PLL). Start with intuitive F2L and two-look OLL/PLL.

Roux: build two 1×2×3 side blocks, solve the top corners (CMLL), then solve the last six edges using M and U. The example has some block pieces already solved.

ZZ: orient all edges and build a bottom line (EOLine), complete the two side blocks, then solve the last layer. Edge orientation is not the same as an edge already being in its final position.

Record study: Xuanyi Geng’s 2.51-second solve, 6 October 2026. Its ZB finish combines last-slot edge orientation (ZBLS) and a one-algorithm last layer (ZBLL). Playback is for teaching, not original timing. Colours are standardized here.
